David H. LeVan, CMI, MBA is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Advantax Group, a premier property tax consulting firm offering comprehensive solutions across all 50 states. His 20 years of consulting and leadership experience also includes Kraft Foods, Coopers & Lybrand and American Appraisal Associates. While at Kraft Foods, he received the Superior Achievement Award for his role in leading organization change, resulting in $10 Million in tax savings.
For over 15 years, Mr. LeVan has contributed to industry education through course development, teaching and chairing professional education committees. He received an award from the Institute for Professional in Taxation for his leadership in the development of the Intermediate Property Tax School at Georgia Tech. He also received 1997 Instructor of the Year, Inaugural Award. His thought leadership contributions to the industry also include the publication of numerous articles, and frequent speaking engagements at several professional organizations.
Mr. LeVan is also president and founder of Harriette's Song, a charitable foundation dedicated to creating opportunities for impoverished children. Mr.LeVan holds a BA in Mathematics from John Brown University and an MBA in Finance from DePaul University.
Carl T. Munyon is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Advantax where he is responsible for developing and integrating profitable operational strategies for the organization and its clients. Mr. Munyon manages the executive team and related resources associated with the operation of Advantax.
Mr. Munyon brings over 20 years of experience from ALDI Corporation, a leader in international grocery retailing with 900 stores in the U.S. and over 5000 stores worldwide. At ALDI, Mr. Munyon served as Vice President of Corporate Purchasing where he successfully managed a $5 billion buying budget and bolstered a 6% increase in the gross margin while making sweeping changes in the U.S. buying operations.
Mr. Munyon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, and a Commercial-Instrument Multiengine Pilot Certificate from its Institute of Aviation. He serves on the Board of Directors for Harriette's Song in addition to serving as a member of the Business Board at First Baptist Church of Geneva.
Todd W. Earnst is the Controller of Advantax where he oversees the finance and human resources. His primary focus is on financial planning and reporting, managing employee benefits and the performance review process, guiding the training and development plans for employees needed to both manage and operate the business.
Mr. Earnst joined Advantax in 2001 after spending nine years in the retail industry, where he held leadership positions in both accounting and operations analysis for Clark Refining & Marketing and Follet High Education Group.
Mr. Earnst is CPA certified and holds a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. Mr. Earnst currently serves on the governing boards as Treasurer for two non-profit organizations, The Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, and Harriette's Song.
Sam Kinslow, CMI, is the National Director of Operations of Advantax, where he leads the operations team including personal property, real property, compliance, valuation, and property tax software. He represents clients as an expert witness in both real estate and personal property tax matters.
Mr. Kinslow has 14 years of experience in the fields of property valuation, consulting, and tax assessment. Prior to joining Advantax, he was a Senior Operations Manager at Burr Wolff, LP for clients including Kmart, Sears, and Boston Market. Mr. Kinslow worked previously for Wal-Mart stores as a Real Estate Tax Manager. He was promoted at Wal-Mart to lead the Personal Property Compliance, Audits, Accounts Payable, and software. Prior to Wal-Mart, he spent time as an independent fee appraiser for lending institutions and private investors. Mr. Kinslow began his career in property tax as a Deputy Assessor valuing commercial properties and conducting formal appeal hearings. He was recognized by his peers in the assessment community for valuation of corporate campuses and manufacturing facilities.
Mr. Kinslow is very active with the Institute for Professionals in Taxation where he has served as Local Luncheon Treasurer, Class Instructor, and on the Property Tax Symposium Executive Committee. He contributes frequently to industry publications and online continuing education classes. Mr. Kinslow is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in Interpersonal and Corporate Communication. Through Compassion International, Mr. Kinslow’s family supports children in Africa and Central America.
Brent Hutto is the Tax Manager of Advantax’s Operations team with a focus on real property and personal property consulting. He is responsible for valuation analysis and tax assessment appeals, including both Personal and Real Property tax management. Having worked for big box retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, and Sears Roebuck, Mr. Hutto has an extensive experience in managing property tax compliance, audit, and landlord reimbursement operations. In addition, he has represented companies in successful formal and informal tax appeal negotiations.
Prior to joining Advantax, Mr. Hutto held the role of Major Client Services Manager for Burr Wolff, LP. He has been recognized numerous times for successfully negotiating and reducing company audit and tax exposure.
Mr. Hutto is an active member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Utah with emphasis in value and pricing theory.
Lee Neuschaefer is the Tax Manager of Advantax’s Operations team, with a focus on Real Property. He has over 34 years of experience in the areas of valuation, consulting, and tax assessment. His expertise in the field allows him to identify issues of overvaluation and to represent clients during the appeal process.
Prior to joining Advantax in 1997, Mr. Neuschaefer served as Senior Tax Consultant for Marvin F. Poer & Company for 14 years. Previously he worked as Property Tax Representative for Property Assessment Advisors; for over 8 years, Mr. Neuschaefer served as a Commercial deputy and then the Chief Deputy Assessor for York Township Assessor’s Office. Mr. Neuschaefer’s unique blend of experience in both property tax assessment and consulting, give him the ability to conduct valuations and manage appeals on virtually all types of commercial and industrial properties.
Mr. Neuschaefer has appeared as an expert witness before the Illinois State Property Tax Appeals Board, the Kansas State Board of Tax Appeals, The Michigan Tax Tribunal, and the Missouri State Tax Commission. In addition, he holds the Certified Assessment Evaluator designation (CAE) with the International Association of Assessing Officers, the highest certification offered by the government jurisdictions in the assessment community.
He is an active member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and the International Association of Assessing Officers. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Elmhurst College. Mr. Neuschaefer serves as a member of the Bensenville VWF post.
Tim Ferraro is the Tax Manager of Advantax’s Operations team, with a focus on property tax compliance. As the tax manager, Mr. Ferraro combines both consulting, and compliance skills to help clients ethically achieve the minimum legal amount due in property taxes. His expertise in tax compliance includes industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, equipment leasing, and retail properties.
Prior to joining Advantax, he served as Senior Tax Analyst at Comdisco, Inc. where he played a major role in filing over 12,000 personal property tax returns annually, in a timely and accurate fashion.
Mr. Ferraro is an active member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, where he has completed two Intermediate Property Tax schools, as well as two symposiums in preparation for the CMI designation. He also studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan.
Christie Ponnwitz, is the Manager of PTR by Advantax, our proprietary property tax software. She has spent over 20 years working with the PTR system in multiple capacities, including program development and design, rendition filing for clients, client training, PTR client management, as well as client implementation and support.
Ms. Ponnwitz serves the needs of our software clientele with over 20 years of technical experience in the property tax industry. Prior to Advantax, she worked for 5 years as an Independent Consultant offering PTR support and technical writing. Ms. Ponnwitz has an additional 9 years of experience with information services and project management in the manufacturing industry.
Ms. Ponwitz is active with the Institute for Professionals in Taxation by attending various conferences each year. She has been actively involved and serving for over 8 years with Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), the largest organization in the United States representing those who provide meal services to people in need.
Steven Potsic, CMI, is the Director of Technology at Advantax. With over 13 years of Property tax experience and over 10 years of technology experience, his responsibilities include leading the technology group, while working to create internal and external systems to support our clients. His unique value to the property tax arena gives him the ability to understand the needs of our client and to create solutions that meet those needs.
Prior to joining Advantax, Mr. Potsic provided valuation and appeal services for AVTI Central Region Office, in both real estate and personal property assessments. His personal property experience includes property valuation, assessment review, field inspections, appeal and testimony before assessment appeal boards, tax lease issues and landlord billings.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics with emphasis in Mathematics and Economic Theories and Computer Programming from Illinois State University. In addition, he is a Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
